Nothing beats a low key Lake Tahoe ski wedding on a sunny Saturday afternoon. This wonderful couple from back east contacted me just a few weeks ago about photographing their ski elopement at Heavenly ski area in South Lake Tahoe. Given the near constant storms we have been having this season I had no idea what would be in store for them weather wise so I warmed them to pack appropriately. Fortunately, Saturday dawned sunny and cold after snowing the day before. As a ski racer and volunteer racing coach, I love to do any kind of photo shoot on skis, but these small winter elopements are the best. What made it even better is when I find out the bride and all her siblings were ski racers from the east coast, and the groom was a darn good snowboarder. We made a plan to take the gondola up to the lookout. Because of the record setting snow, a good portion of the lookout area was buried, but the groom and his officiant/best friend found an open patch of snow with an amazing view not too far away. We had an amazing wedding ceremony overlooking the lake before hopping back on the gondola for a couple hours of skiing around and taking pictures. Lake Tahoe winter weddings are simply the best!
