We recently photographed a back country ski elopement for our friends Anjeanette and Scott in the Mt. Rose wilderness high up above Lake Tahoe.
There are two Scott’s in this story, lol, so I will refer to my husband and photographer Scott as Sady, and the groom as Scott! Sady worked with Anjeanette at the Reno Gazette Journal back in the early to mid 2000’s, where Anjeanette was an investigative journalist. In her final years at the RGJ, she did a great podcast on the ever growing city of Reno, you can give it a listen here: Wondery: The City Season 2. She now works at ProPublica.
Anjeanette and Scott met about 11 years ago and have shared many outdoor adventures together. They share a love of back country skiing, so when they decided to elope up in the mountains and ski in their wedding clothing, it was a natural fit for us to be their skiing photographers.
Anjeanette’s son Ethan was their officiant, and Anjeanette’s friend Mary, and Scott’s brother Paul were also a part of the ceremony and they each read a poem.
While I was the photographer for the day, Sady did a short video of the ceremony itself, scroll to the end of this post to see it, with just a bit of the celebratory dance they all did to John Denver’s Dancing with the Mountains. Sady also flew a drone over the ceremony to capture the sweeping views of the snowy mountains and Lake Tahoe in the background.
After the ceremony, the dancing, and a few portraits, we all skied back down to the cars where we shared an apre ski toast and some snacks. We ended the day with a sunset session at Lake Tahoe, where Anjeanette and Scott scrambled up on top of some huge boulders. Not only did her red dress look A-Mazing for the snowy photos, but it was also so pretty against the deep blue of Lake Tahoe!
Congrats to you both, and we can’t wait to share more skiing adventures with you!
