Bouquets and boutonnieres
For your bridal bouquets and boutonnierres, consider non-traditional materials added to the flowers, or as a flower replacement. We have seen creative use of feathers, paper, wood, shotgun shells and fish hooks among other things. If there is something that is personal to your wedding story or tastes, you can incorporate these items into your bouquets and boutonnieres for a truly unique touch.
Weather
Winter and Fall weddings are less common around Lake Tahoe and can provide you and your guests with some spectacular seasonal outdoor experiences. As long as you are open and adventurous to the weather that may come along with the seasons, your wedding day will be a memorable experience. Check the weather the week before your wedding ceremony, and if you need to bring snow or rain boots, bring them for some fun photos outside “in the elements.” Brides, consider bringing a cute wrap or coat that matches your wedding dress to keep you warm outside.
Desserts
We all know that at a wedding you can have your cake and eat it too! There are a lot of other yummy desserts out there that you can have with the cake, or use to replace it. If you have the big, beautiful wedding cake, then what do you top it with or set it on?
Guestbooks
Over the years we have seen some very creative ideas for the guests to sign the "guestbook," and these days this hardly ever includes an actual book. Everything from snowboards to rocks, check out these fun ideas!
What a way to end our season … with a 2 hour wedding for Ada and Quintin, both ski patrollers at Palisades. We all met up last Sunday morning at 6:45 am to drive up to High Camp for their ceremony with a few of their family members.
Since we literally had the place to ourselves, I suggested that the ceremony be in the grass, with Siberia bowl, where they first met skiing, as their backdrop.
After the wedding ceremony and family photos, we headed back down the mountain for a few more photos at Cushing Pond, the ski patrol shack, and the meadow.

We captured Josh and Sean’s one hour wedding at the Arch in South Lake Tahoe last week. Monique did the still photography, check back tomorrow for those, and Scott did the video. Josh and Sean’s song is Elton John’s Your Song, so Scott recorded himself playing it on the piano and we used it here and in their extended cut wedding videos.

What a fun family session this was! I have known Laurie since those 2 girls on the left were littles, in fact, when her youngest was still in her belly!
Fast forward over twenty years, we have done other family sessions, the girls’ high school senior sessions, and now this round of “all grown up” with Laurie and Bill and their girls.
When we were brainstorming locations, Laurie wanted an urban look, with bright colors. Originally we were going to walk around downtown Reno with all the amazing murals as backdrops, but our session was going to happen just as that last heat wave brought temps in the upper 90’s!
So we pivoted and went up in to the mountains!

Have we mentioned how much we love photographing our couples and their families over the years?
Scroll to the last 3 images to see a few from Theresa and Chris’s engagement session and one from their wedding at Sand Harbor in 2007.
Those images are from back in the day when I still shot film! So going through my archive, each roll of film had 36 exposures, and each of them were scanned at the photo lab and delivered back to me with the developed film, 4x6 prints, and a CD of the scans! Back then, I always gave my couples everything, and kept a copy of the scans for myself.
We have been at this for a long time, and it is an honor each time to capture it all … weddings, maternity, family and high school seniors!

Katie and Kevin and their adorable kids! I met up with them in Hope Valley on a warm summer morning for a family photo session …. Back in the place where we first met up for their engagement session 11 years ago!
