It is always fun to do documentary wedding photography at a “new to me” wedding venue, this one being the incredible Gansberg Ranch in Gardnerville. After photographing weddings at Lake Tahoe and surrounding areas in the Sierra, it is a great change of pace to exchange the lake background for the spectacular valley and east side mountain range views. Throw in a historic working horse and cattle farm, complete with a stone building, barn, farm house and new reception space barn, this place is a gem of venue.
Angie and Jeffrey’s wedding was on a day that brought thunder, a lot of rain, and then a spectacular sunset once the skies cleared.
*Tip for couple’s who have rain forecast for their wedding day: Get clear umbrellas for the couple, officiant, and wedding party. This couple had completely clear ones, and a few with small flowers printed on the clear plastic and they worked great for being able to see and photograph the couple and their wedding party.
The rain came and went during the ceremony itself, and then luckily cleared up for the portrait sessions after the ceremony.
With a large wedding party like this with 7 bridesmaids, 7 groomsmen, 8 flower girls, and 2 ring bearers, I always try to find a location to layer everyone for the portraits. For this wedding party, the historic farmhouse with its outdoor staircase worked perfectly for these photos.
Congrats Angie and Jeffrey, you and your family and friends embraced the day and the weather challenges with ease, and I am sure it will be one of the most memorable days for all who were there to be a part of your special day.
Oh, and last but not least, the Gansberg Ranch is family run, and the whole family is there to help with the set up and break down of the reception space, and they also serve the cocktails at the adorable grain silo turned Waterloo Hole bar!
